PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve lamp efficiency of a fluorescent lamp using an arc tube which has bent glass tubes circling around a revolution axis in helical form and presenting a tubular appearance as a whole. PSOLUTION: The arc tube 1 includes bent glass tubes 2 circling around a revolution axis in helical form and presenting a tubular appearance as a whole. Each of the bent glass tubes 2 has the outside diameter Dao, wherein the ratio Gd/Dao of the shortest gap Gd between glass tubes adjacent to each other in the direction of the outside diameter to the outside diameter Dao is in the range of 0.2-0.6, and the outside diameter Dao is in the range of 5.0-9.0 mm.
