PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically optimize the layout of images which has conventionally been dependent on the human intuition and manual work.;SOLUTION: An image layout evaluation system is provided with: a layout object image input means 1 for inputting one set of the images to be a layout object; a visual sensation induction field calculation means 2 for calculating the induction field of visual sensation for the one set of images to be the layout object inputted to the layout object image input means 1 and deriving equipotential lines from the obtained induction field of visual sensation; a layout evaluation means 3 for evaluating the propriety of the layout on the basis of the equipotential lines obtained with the visual sensation induction field calculation means. The layout evaluation means 3 is also provided with a complication calculation means 31, calculates the complexity of the equipotential lines obtained with the visual sensation induction field calculation means 2, evaluates the propriety of the layout on the basis of the complexity and judges with layout is optimum.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
