PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially favorable method for producing a cyanohydroxybiphenyl compound.;SOLUTION: This method for producing a cyanohydroxybiphenyl compound represented by the general formula (4) comprises reacting a halogenobenzonitrile compound represented by the general formula (1) (X is Cl, Br or I) with a boron compound represented by the general formula (2) (n is a integer of 0, 1 or 2) in the presence of a transition metal catalyst and a base to produce a tert-amyloxycyanobiphenyl compound represented by the general formula (3) and hydrolyzing the resultant in an acid condition.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
