A compound represented by the formula (1), which is useful as, e.g., an optical resolver. Also provided is a compound represented by the formula (4) which is derived from the compound represented by the formula (1). In the formulae, Ar1 and Ar2 are different and each represents optionally substituted phenyl, etc.; R1 represents alkyl, etc.; R2 represents a residue of an alcohol compound; and X represents halogeno.
