PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a pteventing agent for contact dermatitis or pruritus of skin effective in preventing and alleviating the contact dermatitis or pruritus especially the contact dermatitis and pruritus caused by excretion, etc. ;SOLUTION: This preventing agent for contact dermatitis or pruritus contains an extract obtained by extracting the whole or a part of one or more plants selected from the group consisting of a plant of the family Cupressaceae, a plant of the family Umbelliferae and a plant of the family Berberidaceae with a solvent as an active ingredient. The plant of the genus Cupressaceae is a plant of the genus Thujopsis and the extract is prepared by extraction with the one or more solvents selected from the group consisting of water, a hydrocarbon, a monohydric alcohol and a polyhydric alcohol.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
