PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To select a line of inexpensive communication cost to reduce communication cost by switching a route for performing FAX re-transmission on the basis of preset priority in the case of transmission without requiring the troublesome setting of FAX transmission/reception machine side. PSOLUTION: In the PBX 101, a plurality of communication routes are previously set for a single transmission destination telephone number, and a call is made from a FAX transmission/reception machine housed in an extension. If the line is disconnected after the FAX transmission/reception machine is brought into a communication state with a transmission destination, information about the transmission destination telephone number, a disconnection time and a communication route to be used are stored in a memory. If a call is made from the FAX transmision/reception machine to the same transmission destination after one minute of a transmission interval at which the FAX transmssion/reception machine performs transmission elapses, it is determined that this call is the re-transmission of FAX data, a route different from the route used in the last time call is selected, and transmission is performed to the selected transmission destination.
