PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vocal cord characteristic evaluation device and a method for detecting a fundamental frequency of voice by which the calculation speed of change rate is speeded up and the reliability of the calculated change rate is improved by automatically measuring and calculating the change rate of the fundamental frequency of the voice according to pressure change in a mouth area. PSOLUTION: The vocal cord characteristic evaluation device comprises: a mouthpiece which a person to be tested holds in a mouth; a valve attached to the mouthpiece; a pressure sensor for detecting pressure inside the mouthpiece and outputting an electric signal; an analysis section for calculating the fundamental frequency and the pressure inside the mouthpiece from the electric signal and calculating a change ratio of the fundamental frequency according to pressure change inside the mouthpiece, when outflow of breath is suppressed by the valve; and a reference sound output section for outputting reference sound of predetermined frequency. The analysis section detects the fundamental frequency based on the reference sound, and detects a vibration state of the vocal cord by detecting change of the fundamental frequency of sound, when the pressure of the mouthpiece is increased by closing the valve with predetermined timing.
