PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic functional thin film which is obtained by incorporating a functional dye ordered in the size of nanometer into an organic polymer and which exhibits new functions in optical, electronic or conductive properties, and a method for manufacturing the same, and to provide an optical recording medium using the organic functional thin film as a recording material and capable of recording and reproducing information at a recording density exceeding the diffraction limit of a pickup lens. PSOLUTION: A microphase-separated structure is formed from a block copolymer in which polymer chains incompatible with each other combine, substituents which are combined previously to a polymer chain forming a desired separated phase and are releasable by an acid catalyst are released to form holes of the order of nanometer, and a functional dye is introduced into the holes while maintaining ordered structure. The resulting organic functional thin film is disposed as a recording layer on a plastic substrate to obtain the objective optical recording medium capable of recording and reproducing information at a recording density exceeding the diffraction limit of a pickup lens.
