Independent claims are included for: (1) a method of permanently deforming the hair comprising a step of applying the claimed composition to reduce the disulfide bonds of the keratin and a step of fixation by oxidation to reform the bonds by application of an oxidizing composition or by contacting the hair with oxygen in the air; and (2) a kit for the permanent deformation of the hair comprising the claimed reducing composition in one compartment and an oxidizing composition in another.
