PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite material which is constituted by forming an inorganic compound layer on an organic polymer substrate material and obtained by a simple method reducing the effect due to the kind of the substrate material, and to provide a method for manufacturing the same. PSOLUTION: The composite material is constituted by forming the inorganic compound layer on the organic polymer substrate material containing glass containing one or more kinds of components selected from the group consisting of SiOSB2/SB, TiOSB2/SB, ZrOSB2/SB, TaSB2/SBOSB5/SBand NbSB2/SBOSB5/SBas compositional components in amount of 30 mol % or more in total.
