PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a luster powder coating material which solves the problem of production workability and coating workability, and furthermore can obtain a desired coating film having metallic gloss. PSOLUTION: This method comprises the step of mixing 100 mass pts. coating powder with 0.1-12 mass pts. scaly pigment at a temperature of from the glass transition temperature of the coating powder to a temperature lower than its softening point. The above mixing is preferably carried out by an upper shaft- drive mechanical agitation type mixing machine, and the above scaly pigment is preferably at least one kind selected from the group consisting of aluminum powder, a stainless steel flake, a glass flake, mica, a micaceous iron oxide (MIO), and a pearl pigment, and the above coating powder is preferably a powder of a thermosetting coating material having an average particle diameter of 10-100 μm.
