PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide excellent lubrication characteristics and sufficient strength by specifying porosities of a C/C composite clutch disc composed of a disc main body and frictional layers integrated therewith and slid with a clutch plate. ;SOLUTION: A clutch disc 1 is composed of a disc body 2 and a pair of frictional layers 4 integrated with circular ends 3 of the body 2. Porosity V2 of the main body 2 is greater than porosity V1 of the frictional layer 4. In addition, the porosity V2 ranges between 20% and 60%. In manufacturing, first, a preform is obtained front first molding material for the main body 2, including carbon fiber groups, and powder carbon precursor. An intermediate product is molded from similarly prepred second material for the frictional layer 4 and the preform. The carbon precursor is carbonized to obtain composite. A shape of the disc 1 and spline teeth 5 are obtained by mechanical processing. Strength of the disc 1 is easily secured due to the low porosity V1. Satisfactorily dynamic frictional characteristics are obtained by smoothly shifting from fluid lubrication to boundary lubrication due to the low porosity V2.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
