PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an IC card reader system which is included in a personal computer and little in needed hardware, and to provide an method for operating firmware in a keyboard controller of this system. SOLUTION: The IC card reader 200 is used so as to store an IC card 220 and enables data connection between the IC card 220 and a keyboard controller 211. The keyboard controller 211 has a microprocessor 211a which performs data transfer processing between the IC card 220 and a central processing unit 212 through the operation of firmware in the keyboard controller. Even though specially needed hardware is a little according to this card reader system, it is possible to read and process data stored in the IC card.
