PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To overcome the inconvenience of a conventional technique by providing a method for obtaining an SLA optical fiber capable of improving the difficulty in single mode application to 1,300 nm wavelength window due to a high cut-off wavelength of the present SLA fiber, and decrease in capacity of a WDM system due to an non-linear interference effect.;SOLUTION: An excellent transmission characteristic without causing increase in macro-bending loss and attenuation by dividing a core area so that the maximum value of a relative refractive index is produced at a place shifted from the center of the core in the radial direction, and thereby making an effective core area, preferably, equal to approximately 80 μm2 in the wavelength window near 1,310 nm or a specially large effective core area larger than that, and further providing the core area with a very small cut-off wavelength.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
