PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To establish a method for diagnosing infection with varicella herpes zoster viruses. ;SOLUTION: An immunoreactive peptide is homologous with a region of a glycoprotein including amino acid locations 450-655. The peptide preferably corresponds to amino acid locations 505-647, 517-597, 535-584, or 545-582.
