PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the duobinary optical transmission device using the semiconductor optical amplifier that improves a nonlinearity and a dispersion characteristic of a NRZ transmission by overcoming the dependence on a transmission quality and dependence on a bit pattern due to a transmission characteristics of the filter.;SOLUTION: The duobinary optical transmission device comprises a light source 101 for outputting a carrier wave, an encoder 103 which encodes an inputted NRZ (Non Return to Zero) electrical signal, an interferometer-type semiconductor optical amplification unit 110, which modulates a phase of the above optical carrier wave according to the change in an applied bias current coupled to the encoded signal, and an optical band-pass filter 105 which receives the phase-modulated optical signal from the semiconductor optical amplification unit, filters it according to a designated band and outputs a duobinary optical signal.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
