PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a wide picture format while suppressing power consumption.;SOLUTION: The driving device for an active matrix liquid crystal display comprises (a) a multi-format digital data driver which operates in plural different display modes; receives digital input data in plural different formats; is configured so as to drive the data lines of the liquid crystal display; and makes a picture to be displayed on a display corresponding to the input data, and (b) a data analyzing means which receives the digital input data; decides the formats of the input data; and is configured so as to control the data driver to operate in the display modes corresponding to the input data.
