Disclosed is a substance having antibacterial activity against heat-resistant spore bacteria that can be used to improve the shelf life of beverages and processed foods and to prevent germs in cosmetics. The present invention relates to catechin esters in which at least one hydroxyl group of catechins and an intermediate chain fatty acid form an ester. The medium-chain fatty acid esters of the catechins of the present invention, as a single product or a composition, exhibit strong growth inhibition against heat-resistant spore bacteria, and prevent their spoilage and alteration by adding them to food and drink. Moreover, by adding to cosmetics, it is possible to prevent the cosmetics from being spoiled or altered.
