PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a comfortable communication environment with which communication can always be established at a maximum communication speed available under an individual condition of a line even if users do not have enough knowledge about characteristics of the ADSL communication.;SOLUTION: A communication system comprises a multiple ADSL modem 31 provided at a telephone office and an ADSL modem 43 provided at a subscriber's premise which are connected via a telephone line and POTS(Plain Old Telephone Service) splitters 32, 42. A utility software installed in a computer 45 which is connected to the ADSL modem 43 has the computer 45 monitor the data communication between the modems, and detect any change regarding the data communication. The utility software also has a function to restart the ADSL modem 43 when the computer 45 detects that the communication speed decelerates below a predetermined speed, and that communication is not performed between the modems.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
