PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the correct and accurate measure of an optical fiber engaging part by obtaining the center position of the optical fiber engaging part with a measuring microscope and a tracer type shape measuring machine with high accuracy. ;SOLUTION: A member for use in fixing optical fibers 11 has optical fiber engaging part 15 positioningly engaging with optical fibers F and this optical fiber engaging part 15 is provided with two slopes 12 supporting side faces of the optical fiber F when it is engaged with the optical fiber F and a bottom surface 13 positioning in between the slopes 12. The bottom surface 13 is made to be flat. The inclination between bottom surface 13 and the slopes 12 is made to be discontinuous at boundary parts in which the bottom surface 13 and the slopes 12 are connected in a cross section vertical to the optical axis of the optical fiber F which is to be held in between the slopes 12. Thus, when the optical fiber engaging part 15 is seen in a state in which a light is irradiated with respect to the bottom surface 13 from the upper direction or the lower direction, the contrast between the bottom surface 13 and the slopes 12 by a reflected light or a transmission light is made larger.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
