PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a newsprint paper for offset printing having high printing workability and free from damping water web breakage and sticking trouble by coating a base paper with a coating liquid containing a specific cationic starch, zirconium carbonate and cationic polystyrene particle. ;SOLUTION: The objective newsprint paper for offset printing is produced by coating a newsprint base paper with a coating liquid produced by compounding a cationic starch chemically modified to a Brookfield viscosity of 20-100 cPs measured at 50°C as 15% aqueous solution and further cationized to a nitrogen content of ≥0.1 wt. % with zirconium carbonate and cationic polystyrene particle at weight ratios of 100: (5-15):(5-40). The coating rate is 0.2-1.2 g/m2 per both faces in terms of dried solid content.
