The present invention relates to a process for forming a novel coating on the surface of Titanium (Ti) or Ti-alloy substrates. The layered coating improves, among others, the overall hardness of the surface and leads to a surface that is shinier and more resistant to fingerprints than surfaces obtaining by treatment methods known from the prior art. The present invention also relates to a novel layer sequence for a coating formed on a substrate containing Ti.
