The method is for the preparation of one or m ore mosaics and involves clay (1) which lies on a base of newspaper evenly rolled out with rolling pin to thickness of approximately 5mm to 10mm. This thickness is more or less dependent upon the design involved. On brown paper, a sketch (5) is made which is life-sized. On th is sketch it is preferable that all base lines (6) are present. On the nearly dry surface (1') of the clay plate the sketch is placed. With a blunt tool (7), the basic lines of the sketch are pressed, so that these leave an impression (8) on the surface. The sketch is then removed. To a depth of approximately 3 to 4 mm, grooves are formed along the now visible basic lines with a sharp instrument (9) and with the same sharp instrument small mosaic blocks are formed, as is a network of grooves (11). The instrument is so used that the basic lines and grooves are wider in cross-section from above and narrower from beneath. The clay plate in one or more pieces (12) is now removed from the frame and during approximately one week is dried at room temperature under an equal weight between two wooden plates, so that it does not bend.
