The present invention relates to a process for manufacturing balls, in particular for universal joints, as well as a spherical element for two-part spherical pins. The manufacture of the beads according to the invention takes place by means of cold extrusion followed by grinding, whereby a micro alloyed carbon and manganese steel are employed for the manufacture of the beads. Through the use of micro alloy carbon steel and manganese are obtained spheres with excellent strength and hardness with the aid of cold deformation. Thus, the tempering process step required for the manufacture of spheres according to the state of the art according to the state of the art can be dispensed without replacement, whereby more cost-effective material can be employed and the costs of manufacturing are considerably reduced.
