A method for preparing and isolating betulin diacetate from birch bark from paper mills and eventually processing it into betulin is described, where the birch chicken is ground, then mixed with two to twenty times the volume of water and mixed so that all birch chicken is wetted, then collecting the birch crust that floats on the surface, collecting the birch bark fraction at a temperature between 50 and 85 degC and then subjecting betulin contained in the dried birch to acetylation, after acetylation the birch crust is dried at a temperature between 50 to 100 degC, and the resulting betulin diacetate is then isolated by scrubbing with supercritical birch extraction with carbon tetrachloride at a pressure of 28-35 MPa and a temperature of 50-100 degC, and then the supercritical extract is recrystallized for direct use or further processing. Further processing may be the basic hydrolysis of the recrystallized betulin diacetate to betulin.
