In the present invention, there is disclosed the use of the long chain pentraxin PTX3 (PTX3) or one of its functional derivatives for the preparation of medicament which inhibits the biological activity of the growth factor FGF-2, useful for the prevention and treatment of diseases brought about by an altered activation of said growth factor FGF-2.
