Heat treatment is carried out on prefoms arranged in a chamber (11) and associated with inert gas scavenging at a low pressure and a continuous extraction of waste gas through a first waste gas outlet (40) which is connected to an exhaust circuit. At the end of the heat treatment, the first waste gas outlet is closed in such a way that it is isolated from the chamber, the inert gas scavenging of the chamber is stopped, the densification of the heat treated preforms in the chamber is carried out by introducing a gaseous reaction phase therein through at least one channel (32) for said gaseous phase connected to the chamber. The waste gas is extracted through a second waste gas outlet (60) which is different from the first waste gas outlet and closed during the heat treatment. In preferred variant, neutralisation of metal, in particular sodium contained in the waste gas extracted from the chamber during heat treatment is carried out.
