Conventional mode of determining/detecting power quality disturbances is usually based, on a point-to-point comparison of adjacent cycles, which often fails to detect disturbances that appear periodically. Short time fourier transform (STFT) is also satisfactorily used for stationary signals, but this cannot be implemented effectively to analyze transient signals comprising both high- and low- frequency components. This invention aims at evolving a satisfactory soltion of these problems and provides a novel power monitoring system for detection, localization and classification of disturbances in distribution system, which having 3 single phases, each of 230V system with respect to neutral for feeding to the consumers, characterised In that each phase voltage is accessed by potential transformer for stepping down each phase voltage which is fed to the local data acquisition module for converting alalog voltage signal to digital voltage signal for feeding to central processing and digital logging unit, and a real time system using Stockwell- transform (S-transform) for detection, localization and classification of disturbance in the power system.
