A concatenated iterative decoder (70) comprising: a first component decoder (101) for receiving a first extrinsic information signal, a first parity signal, and a systematic code signal, for decoding the systematic code signal from the received signals, and for generating a primary decoded signal comprising a second extrinsic information component; a second component decoder (105) for receiving the primary decoded signal from the first component decoder (101) and a second parity signal, for decoding a decoded signal from the received signals, and for generating a secondary decoded signal comprising the first extrinsic information signal, a gain controller (115) being provided for controlling the gians of the second extrinsic information signal of the primary decoded signal received from lthe first component decoder (101) with a fixed attenuation value according to channel status.
