This invention relates to a process for the preparation of yarn/fabric (textile material) having ultraviolet radiation/protection and flame resistant properties. According to the process the yarn/fabric is prepared from natural coloured cotton or blends of natural coloured cotton with other natural and synthetic fibres. The yarn/fabric so prepared is treated with 0.1-30% by weight of alkalis/salts at a temperature of 40-100°C. The treated yarn/fabric is subjected to the steps of washing followed by drying in vaccum oven so as to obtain said yarn/fabric (textile material).
