A reverse turn mimetic having the following general formula: wherein R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6, and R7, are the same or different and independently selected from C1-12 alkyl, C6-12 aryl and C7-12 arylalkyl, either substituted or unsubstituted with one or more of the following chemical moieties: -OH, -OR, -COOH, -COOR, -CONH2, -NH2, -NHR, -NRR, -SH, -SR, -SO2R, -SO2H, -SOR and halogen (including F, CI, Br and I), wherein each occurrence of R is independently selected from straight chain or branched, cyclic or noncyclic, substituted or unsubstituted, saturated or unsaturated C1-12 alkyl, C6-12 aryl and C7-12 arylalkyl moieties; naphthalene, heterocyclic compounds such as thiophene, pyrrole, furan, imidazole, oxazole, thiazole, pyrazole, 3-pyrroline, pyrrolidine, pyridine, pyrimidine, purine, quinoline, isoquinoline and carbazole, heteroalkyl derivatives of the alkyl portion of the lower chain alkyl and aralkyl moieties, including (but not limited to) alkyl and aralkyl phosphonates and silanes.
