Traffic passing over the strip in the right direction meets the lower end of the strip first, allowing the strip to be pushed down easily as the vehicle drives over it. Traffic driving in the wrong direction meets the pointed upper end of the strip first and driving over the strip will cause it to puncture the vehicle tires.
