Derivatives of seleno-amino acids with improved bioavailability and method for assuring adequate dietary requirements of selenium for livestock

Metal L-seleno-alpha-amino acid 1:1 complex salts and their use as a bioavailable feed ration supplement for domesticated animals such as cattle, pigs and poultry are disclosed, wherein the metal may be selected from the group consisting of zinc, manganese, copper, cobalt, iron and chromium and wherein the seleno-amino acid may be L-selenomethionine or Se-methyl-L-selenocysteine. These metal L-seleno-alpha-amino acid complex salts are used as a source of selenium in animal nutrition.
