Disclosed is an ophthalmic composition comprising a carrier component, a quinoxaline component present in an amount effective in providing a desired therapeutic effect to a human or animal to whom the composition is administered, an oxy-chloro component present at a concentration of greater than about 75 ppm, a glycerine component in an amount effective to further enhance the preservative efficacy of the composition, and a borate component present in an amount effective to enhance a preservative efficacy of the composition relative to a substantially identical composition without the borate component.
