The invention relates to pharmaceutical industry, in particular to prolonged release matrix tablet of gliclazide containing gliclazide, 2-hydroxypropyl cellulose, copovidone, lactose, aerosil and magnesium or calcium stearate. One matrix tablet contains 30 or 40 mg of gliclazide. The invention relates as well to a process for the preparation of matrix tablet which consists in mixing lactose, gliclazide, 2-hydroxypropyl cellulose and copovidone, mixture powdering with aerosil and magnesium stearate and tabletting.
