THERE ARE DESCRIBED AUTOFOCUS MECHANISMS AND METHODS OPTIMIZED FOR FLUORESCENT AND NON-FLUORESCENT APPLICATIONS THAT WHEN COMBINED WITH A HIGH SPEED CCD CAMERA AND HIGH NUMERICAL APERTURE (NA) OPTICS,ACHIEVE SUPERIOR SIGNAL TO NOISE RATIO, RESOLUTION, AND INSPECTION SPEED PERFORMANCE.
