A serving radio network subsystem (SRNS) relocation method is implemented ina wireless communication system. When an old serving general packet radio service(GPRS) support node (SGSN) indicates that a source RNC requires SRNS relocation,the new SGSN sends a relocation request message to a target RNC indicating a singletunnel operation, a tunnel endpoint identity (TEID) of a gateway GPRS supportnode (GGSN), the identification number of a wireless transmit/receive unit(WTRU) and the packet data protocol (PDP) address of the WTRU. The new SGSN sendsan update PDP context request message to the GGSN indicating a single tunnel operationand the target RNC TEID. The GGSN updates a binding of the target RNC TEID with theWTRU PDP address and the identification number. A new tunnel is established betweenthe target RNC and the GGSN, and an old tunnel between the source RNC and the GGSNis released.
