DNA molecule encoding a chlamydomonas p-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase and its applications. Said molecule comprises (a) a DNA sequence identified by SEQ ID No.1, or (b) a DNA sequence analogous to it that (i) is substantially homologous to it, and / or that (ii) encodes for a polypeptide that is substantially homologous to the protein encoded by said DNA sequence defined in (a). Said molecule introduced into a tocopherol producing plant by usual techniques in biotechnology, allows to increase the total vitamin E content in said plant, as well as the content in {al} and {ga} -tocopherol, among other applications, such as increasing resistance to certain herbicides selected from the group consisting of tricetons and isoxazoles.
