Method for recovering Al-containing vapor species, from an outlet gas produced in at least one melting furnace during the carbothermal reduction of alumina to form aluminum, where the outlet gas comprises CO, Al vapor and aluminum sub-oxide, which consists of: (a) directing said outlet gas to a closed reactor; (b) provide the closed wood charcoal reactor with a porosity between 50% by volume and 85% by volume approx. and an apparent density between 0.4 g / cm 3 and 0.7 g / cm 3 approx .; and (c) contact the wood charcoal with the outlet gas to produce a product comprising Al4C3.
