Straight steel tube for hydroforming applications, especially for producing the A-pillar, B or C-pillar of an automobile, wherein the steel has a tensile strength of over 400 MPa, wherein the tube has a thickness wall 1 - 4 mm, and wherein the tube has been provided with a longitudinal dimple over at least 25% of the length of the tube, the tube having a mean diameter between 30 mm and 200 mm in the region of the dimple.
