Method for extracting an organic component of a botanical material from plants of the Labiatae family, which comprises the steps of: (a) contacting, in a container, the botanical material with a mixture of tetrafluoroethane and at least one organic solvent selected from the group consisting of acetone, ethanol, ethylene chloride, isopropanol, methanol, methylene chloride, and propylene glycol to dissolve the organic component in the solvent mixture; (b) remove the remaining botanical material from the solution of the organic component and the solvent mixture; and (c) eliminating the solvent mixture to isolate an oily liquid product containing the organic component, which has an improved antioxidant activity with respect to an organic component extracted in the absence of the organic solvent.
