A strake system (12) is provided for protecting a cylindricalmarine element (6) from vortex induced vibration. The strakesystem (12) comprises at least two shell members (16A, 16B)forming a hollow cylinder defining a cylindrical hollow passagefor receiving the marine element (6), the hollow cylinder beingprovided with a strake extending along the outer surface of thehollow cylinder so as to reduce vortex induced vibrations of themarine element.
