The present invention discloses, inter-alia, a device and method forcorrecting the shape ofan infant's abnormally-shaped cranium by applying external forces over timewith the growth of aninfant to achieve normal shaping of the infant's head. The device appliesinwardly-directed externalforces only to areas of bony prominence and minimizes (or altogethereliminates) these forces on theareas of the skull that are less prominent (or flattened). Because the presentinvention isnon--conforming to the shape of an abnormal skull, the exerted forces causeaccelerated expansion of theskull in less prominent (flattened) areas coincident with brain and skullgrowth. This causes thecranium to return to a normal symmetric cranial shape. The material thatcontacts the infant'scranium is semi-rigid and relatively non-flexible, maintains its overall shapeunder stress.
