The present invention relates to fibre optics and more particularly toflexible,durable, fibre optic splices, and methods of installing such splices. Oneembodiment of the invention comprises a fibre optic splice comprising: aflexiblecentral tensile member; a flexible helical wrapping positioned about theflexiblecentral tensile member; and an outer protective jacket positioned about theflexible helical wrapping. The flexible central tensile member and theflexiblehelical wrapping define a splice enclosure to accommodate optical fibres ofthesplice, at least a portion of the optical fibres being arranged in a generallyhelicalorientation within the splice enclosure.
