The invention relates to a method for operating a management system which comprises at least one manager (NMS) and an agent (EMS), in which elements (NMS, DMS, EMS, BSS, RNC, NodeB) are shown as objects in a hierarchic object tree. The agent (EMS) receives information relating to an object from the manager (NMS). The agent (EMS) adjusts the information relating to the object, when filtering to decide about sending messages from the agent (EMS) to the manager (NMS), such that messages relating to the object and messages relating to one or more objects which are subordinate to the object in the object tree pass through a filter. The invention further relates to a manager (NMS) and an agent (EMS) for carrying out the method.
