A device is described for removing a varicose vein, in particular a lateral varicose vein, having a shaft on a handle, wherein said shaft has a working edge (7), at the front insertion end thereof, for detaching the varicose vein from the surrounding tissue. In order to provide advantageous guiding conditions, the shaft forms a channel profile (2) that can be introduced, along the varicose vein which is to be removed, with a profile channel for taking up the varicose vein detached from the surrounding tissue.
