The embodiment of the present invention provides a method for an idle relay mobile switching center joining a group call which is in progress and the system and mobile switching center thereof. The method includes: after the idle relay MSC received a group call setup request from a service user, it sends a call setup request to a main control MSC; the main control MSC makes sure that the group call is in progress after it received the call setup request, and then refuses the call setup request, and judges whether the relay MSC is in the group call which is in progress, if not, then the main control sends a prepare_group_call message to the relay MSC; the relay MSC sets up a group call and joins the group call after it received the prepare_group_call message. The embodiment of the present invention can make a service user that roams in a idle relay MSC join a group call which is in progress.
