An intellectualized line condition detection and protection apparatus and method for high powered output device, performs intellectualized detection and protection for line condition as injecting lights to the transmission high powered output device in optical transmission line of the optical transmission system. The said apparatus comprises: an optical transmission line, a first and second coupling device, a first and second optical detector, a signaling communication network, and a control and analysis processing unit, wherein, the optical detector detects the input and output optical power of the optical transmission line through the coupling device periodically, after the control and analysis processing unit obtains the reflection coefficient and transmission coefficient according thereto via the signaling communication network, it analyses and determines the fault property, and determines the optical power operating range of the high powered output device, so as to perform the security protection measures, and notifies the high powered output device to adjust itself. The invention can reduce the cost, and is applicable for real-time monitoring in operating process of the system device, it can adapt the changes of the line condition, and provides basis for real-time system diagnosis and optimization in time.
