Disclosed is a box (12) or cavity (20) to be incorporated into one or two rectangular breakthroughs (26) in a thin wall, such as a sheet metal cabinet door (30). Said box (12) or cavity (20) comprises bearing or guiding devices (14) for a lock, such as a pinion gear (14) that meshes with (a) toothed or perforated locking rod(s) (16, 18), or a drive shaft for a rotary bolt or tensile rotary bolt, the bearing or guiding devices (14) being disposed in the box (12) or cavity (20). The drive shaft or pinion gear can be rotated by means of an actuator such as a manually operated lever which can be tilted and/or swiveled out of a cavity, or a control button or an insertion key that can be inserted into the box (12) which is provided with a key shield (24). The cavity and/or the box (12) can be mounted in the at least one rectangular breakthrough (26) of the thin wall (30) by means of substantially non-resilient clamping devices, such as hooks, which engage with the rear face of the breakthrough edge. Said box (12) or cavity (20) is characterized in that additional substantially resilient clamping devices (42) extend from the box (12) or the cavity and/or a cup-shaped cover (46) that surrounds the parts of the box (12) or cavity (20) which project inward through the breakthrough. Said substantially resilient clamping devices (42) removably retain the cup-shaped cover (46) that surrounds the parts of the box (12) or cavity (20) which project inward through the breakthrough.
