This invention provides HIF-3α nucleic acid and sequences. Also provided are methods for using HIF-3α nucleic acids, proteins, fragments, antibodies, probes, and cells, to characterize HIF-3α, moduclate HIF-3α cellular levels, induce angiogenesis, improve muscular functions, and treat coronary and cardiac diseases in mammals.
